Frequently Asked Questions

What are your daycare rates?

Full day of Daycare 8am-6pm = £24

Half day of Daycare 8am-1pm or 1pm-6pm = £17

Can I save money by purchasing daycare sessions in bulk?

Yes! You are welcome to purchase a block of 10 daycare credits for £215, saving £2 a day on our standard rate. Discounts are also available for full time daycare places - just ask us for a quote.

What is the earliest time at which I can drop off my pet?

Standard drop off time is from 2pm-6pm Monday to Friday and 2pm-5pm Saturday and Sunday. You can drop off earlier than this if we have space - we will just book your dog or cat into Daycare (extra charges apply).

What is the latest time at which I can pick up my pet?

Standard pick up time is from 8am-12pm Monday to Friday and 9am-12pm Saturday and Sunday. You can collect later than this if we have space - we will just book your dog or cat into Daycare (extra charges apply).

I don't want my dog to interact with certain other dogs – can they board with you and attend daycare?

We have lots of dogs who board with us and aren't dog friendly. We respect your wishes and will ensure they do not interact with other dogs. With daycare, we will advise you on application what we are able to do to accommodate. We are also able to work on dog socialisation.

My dog's vaccinations are out of date. Is that a problem?

Unfortunately we are legally unable to accept unvaccinated dogs or cats for either boarding or Daycare. Documentary proof is essential and we won't be able to accept your dog or cat unless we see it. Although kennel cough is not essential for dogs to board or attend Daycare with us, we do recommend it (although dogs cannot enter The Happy Dog Haven for the 14 days immediately after being vaccinated for kennel cough).

How do I find the Happy Dog Haven?

You can find us at: 43 Crowland Street, Blowick, Southport, PR9 7RL.

What do I need to bring with my dog for boarding?

The only essentials you need to bring is your dog themselves, any medication they take, and their own food if you’re not opting to pay for house food. We have toys, bedding, and bowls. However, if your dog needs a comfort from home bringing their own blanket is welcome.

Is there an additional charge if I don't supply my own pet food?

Yes, there is a charge of £2.00 per day for us to supply pet food.

What do you do in the unfortunate event that my pet suffers from illness or injury whilst at the Happy Dog Haven?

Although this is extremely rare, in the event of an injury or serious illness we will always contact you immediately to obtain your instructions on how we proceed and, in the event we are unable to reach you, we will contact your named emergency contact. If we are unable to reach either, we will obtain vet assistance as we would with our own pets. We have good relationships with all local vets, and The Happy Dog Haven is registered with Copper Beech Vets in Churchtown and also has emergency out of hours cover. Several staff members are Canine First Aid trained, so always have a fully trained and qualified Canine First Aid professional on site at all times.

My dog has behavioural issues - can they board with you?

Usually, yes! We have never refused to board a dog at The Happy Dog Haven - and we often board dogs other kennels and dog hotels will not. This is for two reasons: 1. Our staff are extremely well trained and we have two qualified behaviourists working within the kennels who are able to assess the dogs and put in place safe working practices, and 2. As The Happy Dog Haven is owned by the founder of a rescue, we understand the pressures of not being able to board or have respite care can have on the owners of dogs - increasing the risks of them ending up in rescue. We want to prevent this whenever possible. This has worked extremely well, and some of our more challenging boarders have become behaviour clients as a result.
